My name is Mark Gowdy and I am the Director of the North American Solution Architect team for Foglight.  The solution architect role is a very interesting one here at Quest because we’re involved at all stages of a customer engagement – from positioning a solution for the customer, to the delivery of a potentially custom implementation.  We are, if I may say so, deep technical experts in this market and our products.  We use our knowledge of the technology and the customer environment to collaborate internally with both Sales, R&D / Product Management, and the Professional Services teams to push the boundaries of our solution.

Over the coming months, members from my team and the solution architects around the world will be posting entries on this blog.  The main focus will be product tips and tricks to help you configure, deploy, administer, tailor, and take full advantage of Foglight.  We have quite a few bright folks on the team that love to talk about the really cool stuff, so we’ll do all we can to post often.

I hope you get value from what we offer.  If not…don’t be shy about letting us know.

-Gowdy

Re: Hey ... want a TIP on how to use Foglight better

I'm new to foglight and need to learn what is needed to write custom scripts to produce reports. Can you direct me to useful information. We currently have fog 4.1 but will be upgrading to fog 5 soon. Thanks in advance for help you can provide.

WebLogic Agent

We use Foglight 4.2.3.2 and are thinking about using the WebLogic Agent. Please let me know what you think about it, what were some of the issues you have with the installation and running, is it worth using. When we tried to use this agent about 4 years ago it kept crashing the server.

Re: Hey ... want a TIP on how to use Foglight better

Hi Rich

There is some great documentation on our SupportLink website (www.quest.com/support). One document I highly recommend is the Scriptable Agent Builder Field Guide. If you do a search on the Knowledgebase for this PDF you will find it. That, in conjunction with the other documentation should get you started. If you have any further questions or more specific requirements, I would suggest posting in the Forum on www.foglight.org or contacting your Account Manager and he can arrange some time with a Quest Solution Architect.

Failing that, post back and let me know if you need any further assistance.

Kind regards

Mark

Re: WebLogic Agent

Hi Ann

The Java Agent (and Foglight) has improved enormously over the last 4 years and is definitely worth considering. I would recommend taking a look at the new Foglight 5 offerings for Java Application Management (http://www.quest.com/application-and-service-management-technology/java.aspx). If you require further details or a demonstration and discussion then please contact your local Quest Account Representative. If you have any problems, please let me know and I shall do my best to address them.

Kind regards

Mark
