My background is varied having been in roles spanning R&D, services, marketing, PM, and general management. My career kicked off in the development sector with an emphasis on
J2EE, .NET, and SOA. I came to Quest three years ago making a huge leap from the application development sector to application systems management. Quest was making a major investment in Java and .NET productivity solutions and they desired professionals with application development backgrounds to help drive business strategy. After joining, got involved with a range of initiatives and – as we realized that managing an application required correlating a 360 degree perspective of the application – was asked to link together our initiatives around Foglight, Performance Analysis and Spotlight.
Since that time, we’ve made some amazing progress and shared in wonderful experiences:
1) We shipped Foglight 5 – a total rewrite of Foglight - at the beginning of 2007 , beginning a new era for Quest in performance management.
2) Visiting nearly 100 customers and prospects, meeting some fantastic people, discussing the future, and working to create a mutual vision of performance in highly dynamic environments.
4) Established a series of offerings to help our customers plan and execute migrations of their Foglight 4 installations to take advantage of the adaptive and correlation capabilities inherent in Foglight 5.
5) Expand our specializations for application platforms to now include
.NET,
WebSphere MQ, networks, and VMWare. In short order, we’ll be announcing support for a series of agentless technologies that will enable reach to 100s of systems spanning systems of all types.
6) Create and expand partnerships with critical players in IT support and datacenters: Dell, Sun, and Accenture.
7) Relaunch Foglight to the market – taking place now –
with a revamped Web site, the release of the Foglight.org community, attendance at a series of major industry events, briefing the press and analysts, launching awareness campaigns, and putting our global sales force of 1000 reps through a week of training on how to better serve and advise on the needs of the market.
Given that this is Foglight.org, this blog is going to focus on industry issues related to application management, with a focus on performance, availability, and services. Over the coming months, I’m going to write a series of posts relating to the future of performance management, the size of the market, and what we believe it’s going to take to solve the – unsolved – performance problem in the market.
Will enjoy engaging with the broader world and to hear your thoughts. And, as always, I can be reached directly at
