Last week, Gartner held their ITxpo Symposium at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.  Quest was the premier sponsor of this event and we were there to [re]launch Foglight.  As the premier sponsor we had prime booth location on the showfloor, as well as a number of sessions.  We had taken our latest release of Foglight (v5.2) and we created 4 demo stations in the booth, covering 4 key aspects of Foglight.

  1. Virtualization Management
  2. End User Management
  3. Java Application Management
  4. Service Dashboarding

All of these demo stations were busy throughout the show, but what was exciting for me - and my colleagues - was the way each of these demos was received.  In particular, our solutions for VMWare and End User created a lot of buzz.  I would recommend taking a look at these on our newly revamped website.  These demos are available, for a short time only, on our Virtual Tradeshow Booth.

We had the benefit of a virtualization expert - Scott Herold - there with us to help explain the value that our solution brings to your virtualization strategy, although a lot of this was quickly grasped after 4-5 minutes looking at our solution.  The audience was primarily senior management and executive-level, yet were interested in discussing the technical facets of our solution as well as the high-level business value.   What it did allow us to do was validate that our message and the solution is resonating with the wider community.

I would like to share with you a story told to me by one of our customers regarding our VMWare solution.  They recently upgraded to Foglight v5.2 and this senior executive asked his Foglight administrator to take a look at the VMWare solution and to give him a call when he had it installed and collecting interesting/useful data.   Fifteen minutes later, the Foglight administrator calls back and told him to come take a look.  Now that's quick time to value!

Again, I have no real tips and tricks in this blog posting either but I promise to start sharing them soon…

Re: Thinking Over Gartner ITxpo

Gowdy,

Congrats on Foglight 5.x. I bet the entire company is relieved to get this monkey off their back.

On to business, All of the big enterprise systems management vendors have already announced and proved out their VMWare ESX solution in the past 6-12 months. Why does Quest internally believe it is the first to market with such?

As a prospect, I am worried that Quest Foglight does not have priority with respect to the overall company direction. So, I can't take version 5.x seriously. On the street, Quest is viewed as merely a "software holding company" and less of an R&D company. I am not seeing innovation from this Fog 5 solution, but more imitation. Since Product Marketing is anemic, Can you help me see the value in this 5.x product compared to the larger vendors?

Maybe Quest should spin off Sitraka, yes?
