Hi. Mark Gowdy here. It's been a while since I personally posted but they try to keep me away from the technology nowadays. :) However, I did get a chance to play with Foglight recently and I wanted to share with you something I recently discovered.
Out of the box, reports sent via email all have the same filename (report.pdf). I'd like all of my reports to have a name that equates to the title of the report. To make that change requires a very small amount of work; hopefully you'll find as much value from it as I did.
As I said, a report sent via email will have a filename of report.pdf.

As a pointy-haired boss, I want to save these reports for later review. However, I don't want to have to rename the file every time I save it. So here are the steps to make that change.
1. In the Foglight UI, go to Administration --> Rules & Notifications --> Manage Rules. You will want to edit the Email Reports Sample rule.

2. Next, click on the Rule Variables tab. We're going to add a new Rule Variable, title, as seen in the screenshot below.

Click the <Add button to add this new Rule Variable and then press the Condition & Actions tab.
3. Expand the Fire condition and then press the Action tab within this condition. You will want to click on EmailAction next.

4. As you can see in the screenshot below, the report filename is defined in the mail.attachment.file.name parameter. This is what we will change presently.

5. Click on Default under the Value column for the mail.attachment.file.name parameter. In the pop-up window, you will want to select the newly created Rule Variable (title) and press the Change button.

6. As you can see, the value for the mail.attachment.file.name parameter has now been changed. This means that the name of the report will always be the same as the title you specify for the report.

7. Now let's test this out. From the left menu-bar, select Reports --> Report Manager. Press the Run Report button and select a Report Template to test with. In this case, I'm using the Physical Host Performance Summary report. Enter values similar to those in the screenshot and press the Run button.

8. You should very soon receive an email with your attachment. And if all is well, the report will have a spiffy new name.

So there we go. Hopefully this was of value. As ever, feel free to use the Comments section below with feedback on this post, suggestions for future posts or anything else.
Thanks
Gowdy
